Decide who can open an artifact before you share it

Every artifact starts private. The Share control sets who can open it, only you, named people, or anyone with the link, and on a work plan a shared chat artifact can carry the chat's files with it. What each level means, what the wrong one costs, and how to take a link back.

The opening card of the video: the KC monogram, the series name Claude: Worth Knowing, and the title Decide who can open an artifact before you share it. Video coming soon

Every artifact starts private, and the lock on it is the thing to check before you send anyone a link. Open the artifact and press Share. You can keep it to only you, invite named people by email, or let anyone with the link open it, as long as they are signed in to Claude.

Pick the wrong level and the wrong people read it. On a work plan, sharing an artifact from a chat can open that chat’s files to them as well, so check what is attached first. To take a link back, open Share again and set it to Only you. An older, published artifact has Unpublish instead, and that deletes its shared copy for good. So before you share, choose the level on purpose.

The facts come from Anthropic’s help pages on sharing artifacts and on what artifacts are, read on 14 October 2026, and from the Artifacts tab and a chat with an artifact open, as seen on 13 and 14 October 2026. They describe the Pro and Max plans; Team and Enterprise add organisation-wide links and owner controls. Sharing rules change, so check the pages for the current wording. This is an independent explainer, not affiliated with Anthropic.
